Who we are and what we do


The mission of the SC School Improvement Council is:

To promote and support civic engagement
for quality public
education in South Carolina.

How Is SC-SIC Funded?

SC-SIC receives its funding from the SC General Assembly and is the only statewide organization in the nation devoted solely to the assistance of local School Improvement Councils.

What Services Does SC-SIC Offer?

In partnership with the College of Education at the University of South Carolina Columbia campus, SC-SIC provides:

  • A wide range of free workshops and training programs for council members and other public education partners.
  • A quarterly award-winning newsletter, Council News, mailed at no cost to all SIC members and other education partners.
  • A regularly updated web site, http://sic.sc.gov, that provides information, downloadable publications and tools, and links to other education and civic engagement web sites.
  • Free printed materials and technical assistance available directly from the SC-SIC offices via phone call or email.
